Jennifer Spelman is a documentary photographer, educator and workshop leader based out of Santa Fe, New Mexico. After traveling to Cuba more than 50 times in the past ten years leading photographic workshops and experiences, she has developed a strong connection to the Cuban people and culture, feeling most at home on the streets of Havana. In addition to Cuba, she has traveled extensively, teaching workshops in Turkey, Morocco, India, Romania, Spain, Mexico, Japan and India through both the Santa Fe Photo Workshops and her own. She co-founded OneWorldSeen in 2021 and co-publishes its photo zine, CubaSeen.

A sensitive photographer of people, Spelman strives to create portraits with energy and insight. She is interested in telling stories that celebrate connection, tradition and the land.

To me, street photography is pure poetry. You learn to see and make these incredibly layered moments that other people just walk past. Going back to Cuba lets me put together longer stories, lets me thread pieces of that place together.
