Obscura Gallery shares our Santa Fe location with Brant Mackley Gallery which specializes in exceptional antique North America Indian, Oceanic, Asian, and African art – together, the two offer a unique, deeply-layered, and intertwined gallery experience.
Our space harkens back to Alfred Stieglitz’s Gallery 291 from 1905 to 1917 (referring to 291 Fifth Avenue in New York City). Stieglitz’s intention with this gallery was to bring art photography to the same stature in America as painting and sculpture by using this space to introduce to the United States some of the most avant-garde European artists of the time as well as antique tribal and Native American art.
