Cara Romero. Archival pigment ink print. Signed, dated, editioned and titled on print verso. Edition of 25.
Taken at sunset on a hilltop in Chemehuevi Valley, PUHA means “the path”. From L to R featuring: Curtiss, Winka, John and Kiyanni–four boys from the Chemehuevi Valley Indian Reservation singing with the gourd. In California, this is called “singing the birds” or sometimes “bird singing”. It has been an honor to work with them and their parents over the past couple of years to share the beauty of our Chemehuevi people, land and culture. They make our Tribe very proud by staying on the path to keeping our culture strong. They are our future. – Cara Romero
